How Long Will My Bathroom Remodel Take?

If you're thinking about scheduling a bathroom remodeling service sometime soon, you may be getting excited as you research different ideas for your design, layout, fixtures and more. At Luxury Bath & Kitchens, one of the first questions our customers ask us ahead of a project is how long their bathroom remodel will take.

There's no easy answer to this—if you only need a shower replacement, a seasoned team may complete the installation in a single day! However, if you're planning on a larger, full-service bathroom remodel, plan on setting aside at least 2 months. Below, we break down the three steps that make up a complete bathroom remodel, and how long each will take.

Step 1—Pre-Construction

Of the three steps involved in a bathroom remodel, pre-construction definitely takes the longest, usually requiring three to four weeks. During this beginning phase, you'll be looking into ideas for inspiration, and calling around to bathroom remodeling contractors in your area for estimates—you'll also want to make sure they are licensed and insured, and can offer all the specific services you may need, such as plumbing or electricity.

Once you've selected your contractor, there's a few aspects remaining in the pre-construction phase, including:

  • Review & Sign Contract
  • Make Downpayment
  • Determine a Schedule
  • Obtain Necessary Permits
  • Order Materials

Step 2—Construction

Once all the scheduling, ordering and organizing is complete, you and your bathroom remodeling team are ready to begin the construction phase of the project. Plan on setting aside at least one week for the demolition alone—if you're undergoing a full-service remodel, it could take some time to properly strip your bathroom down to its bones and then make sure all the plumbing and framework of your space is good to go.

After demo and structural changes, your team may need anywhere from a couple of days to another full week to install all your new materials and fixtures, which could include:

  • New Bathtub or Shower
  • Bathroom Countertops
  • New Flooring Materials
  • Updated Wall Panels
  • New Vanity & Sink

Step 3—Post-Construction

After your contractor is finished with your bathroom remodel, you aren't in the clear just yet—if you had plumbing work done or another service requiring city permits, an official inspector will need to come and assess your space to ensure it's up to code. Allow at least one week for the inspection to be scheduled and completed!

After this, there's only a few things left to wrap up with your project, such as cleaning up the job site and completing a final walkthrough. It's important for homeowners to speak up during this last step if they have any concerns or questions. Most bathroom remodelers prioritize customer satisfaction, and will want to make sure you're happy with the final result.
